almond butter toast with cinnamon and honey

Perhaps it’s my inclination for simplicity in the morning, but I find this toast recipe to be one of my favorites and a very satisfying choice for breakfast. It’s quick and easy, but importantly – it’s nutritious and energizes me for the day ahead. At its very core, this recipe is almond butter on top of a slice of toasted whole-grain bread, but it really is so much more. The toast is then taken to the next level with a generous sprinkle of cinnamon, a dash of sea salt, a dusting of ground flax seed, a drizzle of honey, and finished with sesame seeds. Earthy, satisfying, and energizing – a wonderful breakfast combination.

This toast is wonderful for hurried mornings, perfect for when five minutes is all you can possibly spare. I like to pair it with some Fresh Green Juice or an Imperial Purple Smoothie. Wonderful for both kids and adults, this toast is a breakfast staple of mine that I hope you’ll enjoy, as well.

Customize this recipe to your liking – dial up or down on any of the toppings as you see fit. They’re all wonderful ingredients and will make a delicious breakfast or snack.

Serves 1

1 slice wide-pan multi-grain bread, preferably whole-wheat and speckled with seeds
1-2 tablespoons all-natural almond butter
Generous sprinkle of cinnamon
Small dash of sea salt
1 teaspoon ground flax seed, for sprinkling, optional
1-2 teaspoons honey, for drizzling, or more to taste
Heaping teaspoon of sesame seeds, for sprinkling

Spread the almond butter evenly over the surface of the toasted bread. Generously sprinkle with cinnamon and top with a small dash of sea salt. Dust with ground flax seed. Drizzle with honey and finish with sesame seeds. Serve warm.

  3. What a great idea! I often have toast with almond butter or coconut oil. Never thought of adding flax. I would bet cinnamon with coconut oil would work well, too.

For the last week or so, I’ve been wanting to start bringing more healthy foods to work, rather than running out at lunch to grab something that I know I’ll be sorry for afterward. I’ve been eating yogurts in the morning with blueberries or a banana, but that gets boring after a while.. I love the idea of this, and think that it would be so great to change things up a bit!
